Profile

 

Arohi Athavale is a professionally trained Kathak performer, teacher, and choreographer who began her journey at the age of 12. She is a dedicated disciple of Guru Pt. Rajendra Kumar Gangani, a renowned exponent of the Jaipur Gharana.

 

With years of rigorous training under the Guru–Shishya Parampara, she has developed a strong foundation in Kathak, marked by clarity in technique, command over rhythm, and expressive storytelling. Her artistic journey reflects discipline, consistency, and a deep-rooted understanding of the classical tradition.

 

She has performed on prestigious national and international platforms and continues to contribute to the art form through both performance and teaching.

 

Training & Qualifications

 

Arohi has undergone extensive formal and traditional training in Kathak, combining academic excellence with immersive Guru guidance.

  • Completed 8 years of structured training with a Diploma in Sangeet Kala Ratna from Raja Mansingh Tomar University, Gwalior

  • Awarded Diploma (Honours) in Kathak from the National Institute of Kathak under Guru Pt. Rajendra Kumar Gangani

  • Pursued Post Diploma in Kathak, further strengthening advanced techniques, repertoire, and performance understanding

  • Recognized as a B-Grade Artist by Doordarshan and All India Radio, New Delhi

  • Empanelled artist with SPIC MACAY

 

Her training reflects a balance of academic rigor and traditional Guru–Shishya learning, enabling her to carry forward the authenticity and depth of Kathak.

  • Curated “Amay”, a 3-day offline Kathak workshop

Artistic Approach to Training

 

Her teaching method emphasizes strong foundational training (tayyari), rhythmic understanding (laya), and expressive performance (abhinaya). She focuses on building discipline, clarity, and confidence in students while maintaining the purity of the Kathak tradition.

 

As a faculty member at MK Arts Academy – Kathakalaya, Doha, she is committed to nurturing students through structured learning and meaningful artistic guidance.
